About the Recipe

Electrolyte drinks have long been used by athletes to replace the minerals lost through perspiration. The main minerals that make up electrolytes include sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium. Coming from the intent to use real food, this drink utilizes electrolytes naturally found in four main ingredients. Another group that may benefit from this drink are people undergoing certain cancer treatment who find their potassium or sodium levels dropping. This drink is high in nutrients while being low in sugar and artificial colors and flavors. The nutrition breakdown is below.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup coconut water

  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup

  • 1 lemon, juiced

  • â…› teaspoon sea salt

  • water

Preparation

  1. Add the first 4 ingredients into a blender and  mix. Alternatively, you can add to a mason jar and shake until blended. Add 1 cup water to the mixture and enjoy.

  2. If preparing for use later, try pouring into ice cube trays and place in the freezer. When you’re ready to use, place ice cubes in a large water bottle and add water.
